Souad Youjil Abadi

Research Engineer

Souad completed her BSc in Life Sciences, specializing in Biochemistry and Biotechnologies, at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and her Master’s degree in Bioinformatics at Université Paris Cité. During her Master’s, she participated in the Stanford Ribonanza RNA Folding competition on Kaggle, building deep-learning models to predict RNA chemical reactivity at nucleotide resolution. Her research experience began with the Mitacs Globalink research internship program at Queen’s University in Canada, in clinical epigenetics, where she benchmarked the tools used to process DNA methylation microarrays and analyzed the resulting data in search of cancer biomarkers. She then joined the Neuro-Bicêtre research unit (Inserm U1195) to work on cross-species single-cell transcriptomics of spinal cord neurons under the supervision of Dr Steven Knafo and Dr Camille Berthelot, where she built reproducible pipelines to characterize a human neuronal subpopulation homologous to one described in the mouse. She also contributed to single-cell and spatial transcriptomics analyses for other teams, including on tumor heterogeneity in the mammary gland. In summer 2026, she joined the RETROGEN lab at the Institut Necker-Enfants Malades, on the Necker campus in Paris, as a Research Engineer in bioinformatics.
